Gamefroot this week!
Goooooood morning fellow gamers and welcome to this week’s review of, ‘man that’s sweet!’
We’ve noticed a difference in the games being published this week, and I’m happy to say that quite a few of you have been trying out and building some pretty cool stuff. Quite a few of the feature games this week are unfinished or unpolished games, but offer some nice gameplay that we hope will continue to be developed. So onto my game of the week:
Daves Adventure in LOHAC
Daves Adventure in LOHAC by Maki-Tak is a feast for the eyes and a fantastic example of what you can do with your own tiles. There are only two tiles in this whole design that are from the Gamefroot engine: the lava and the yellow button. The background, floor tiles, character, death animation and gems are all original graphics and they look super. The entire concept is based on the character, Dave Strider, from MS Paint Adventures, and LOHAC (Land Of Heat and Clockwork) is his home planet. Dave is probably the most exciting feature of this game. He not only looks pretty darned cool with his super sexy sword, but his movements are sleek, smooth and effective. This shows you what you can do with a little tweaking of player physics combined with sweet graphics. This level is very much unfinished, but we would love to see Maki-Tak extending the level and creating a nice long platform game that would allow ‘Dave’ to really stretch his legs out 🙂 Awesome work Maki-Tak!
Craving for Pizza
In last weeks review, I dedicated a section to the importance of music, bakground and story points. This next game, Craving for Pizza by thatswhatshesaid is a great example of all three. The game follows the player as he attempts to make it to the local Hells Pizza to fill his starving belly. Of course in order to get there he has to get through a few zombies and avoid stepping on the transporter tiles as they lead to a fiery death. This is a pretty short game and it is easy to finish without much of a challenge, but it shows great use of story points that continue throughout the level, appropriate choice of music and an original background using background tiles from the game creator. It would be great if there were more teleporters to dodge to make this a little more challenging, and perhaps a timer that counts down to your impending death by starvation? But overall, as thatswhatshesaid points out in the game description, this game has ‘some bugs however fun”.
Gold, beautiful gold!
The last game this week is Gold, beautiful gold! by phil wickliffe. This game is not finished, in fact it takes about 20 second to get all the coins then you’re done, but it is yet another awesome example of customized tiles, and it feeds my inner geek child! Imagine if phil wickliffe made an entire game in this wicked retro 8 bit style, wouldn’t that be heaven’s glory?
That’s it folks!! It’s been great to see the improvement in the games being made, keep up the good work. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with next week!
