We’re really excited by how well the new version of Gamefroot has been received. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be ensuring all your games from the old Gamefroot are accessible in the new Gamefroot editor at make.gamefroot.com. Once this process is complete, we’ll be taking down the old Gamefroot so that we can focus on maintaining a single game making environment. With that focus, we can continue to make Gamefroot more powerful and easy to use.
The old Gamefroot was designed to create Flash games, but the new Gamefroot creates HTML5 / Javascript games, which means your games will run not just in your web browser, but also on modern devices such as your Android or iPhone. Old technologies become obsolete – such is the way of Flash, and the Flash games era has been rapidly drawing to a close. We realised HTML5 was going to be the future of the web, and now that future has become a reality (even Youtube has stopped displaying videos in Flash, and now uses HTML5 video).
We hope you continue to enjoy using Gamefroot. We’d love to hear your feedback, so please send us a message here with your questions or comments.
Regards,
The Gamefroot Team
This version seems very flaky. We wanted to use it with our post grad certificate in applied practice (digital and collaborative learning) next week, but nothing seems to work properly, particularly in Chrome HTML5. Was it wise to ship the new version in this unfinished state? It means we can’t use it with our current cohort of teachers.
I’m not happy with the state you released this version. It’s now impossible for kids to make their own games without knowing how to program first. There are two premade scripts, of which the NPC script doesn’t work well. When can we expect the easy application of character and item property editing that was there in the previous version?
You! I’m at ten creating games easily!
well i’m 12 and i cant FUIGER OUT A THING.
Hi JoostBos. We’ve added a new Template called Gamefroot Classic.
You and your users just need to use that template to get the old Gamefroot experience “no coding required”. Game objects with the little lightning bolt are the ones with attached scripts.
The great thing about this vs the old Gamefroot is that now you can edit the scripts to see how they were assembled. This is much more like real game development.
We want your students to be able to easily see how things are coded. That way they are learning real industry tricks and it might help them progress a career in the Games business.
Again sorry for any inconveniences but we’re doing what we can to get back to where we were. Thanks for your feedback.
I am really happy to read this update. I figured it’s been a while since I created a game on Gamefroot, so I thought I’d come back to surprise some people. Then I see the huge improvements going on. I think this is a really good move. Will there be tutorials on how to use the new editor?
