Beautiful and Free Game Assets from Glitch

landing-bg-small_125684

We’ve spent the past few days putting together the free game assets from Glitch and adding them to the Gamefroot Marketplace. The massively multiplayer game “Glitch” shutdown in 2012, and the developers have since released the game art for free. Thank you Tiny Speck for all these great assets!

Tiny Speck, Inc., the game’s developer, has relinquished its ownership of copyright over these 10,000+ assets in the hopes that they help others in their creative endeavours and build on Glitch’s legacy of simple fun, creativity and an appreciation for the preposterous. Go and make beautiful things.

You can find scenic backgrounds, tools, resources, collectibles, food, toys, furniture, and characters from Glitch all on the Gamefroot Marketplace for free.

We hope you guys can make some interesting games using this excellent resource.

Go and make beautiful games!

Let’s Make a Game: Snake

Note: this tutorial is out of date. You can use concepts from this tutorial, plus updated ones listed below:

snake

The classic game “Snake” is fun because of it’s simplicity and replayability. You start out as a small snake made up of one or two blocks, and you grow longer each time you eat something. You have to avoid colliding with yourself, which becomes progressively harder as your tail grows longer. The entire game only contains a few elements, but you can play it over and over – that makes it a perfect candidate for a “Let’s Make a Game” Tutorial!

Game Roundup – January

.

For the first month of 2013 we’ve had a load of good games produced on Gamefroot. Check out some of the ones we thought were pretty great:

Muffin Cave Quest

By Natasha Skye Bishop

Oh noes, the cave ceiling is collapsing! Grab as many muffins as you can, there’s no time to explain!

.

SAYONARA BABY

By Alvaro Aparicio

Batman vs Terminator Robots. Me gusta!

Teddo’s Odyssey

By Cass

Even though Cass says this is just a test level, it looks so cool! Can’t wait to see what comes next.

Bowserflame Challenge IX

By Bowserflame

.
If you’re still hungry even after collecting all those muffins, here are some cookies… and some lava. Don’t drink the lava.
.
.
.

Bowserflame’s Mega Blast

By Bowserflame

.
In this game, each time you collect a ball a new one spawns in a different location. The more blue balls you get, the higher your score goes, but you have to avoid getting shot by the enemies that constantly spawn from the top. A brilliant use of scripting by Bowserflame!

.

John’s Game

By Casonp

.
Kill the skeletons and dodge the obstacles. This game is a nicely done platformer – made in the classic Gamefroot style!

Great stuff, everybody!

How to Unpublish a Game

Note: this feature is currently unavailable

Decided you want to keep prying eyes away from your hard work? Maybe you want to make changes to your published game and don’t want people to play it until you are finished. It’s OK! You can very easily remove your game from public scrutiny by opening it up in the level editor, opening the File menu, and clicking Publish. Check the Draft button and click Save. Now your game has been reverted back to Draft mode, and it will no longer be visible on Gamefroot.com

You can re-publish your game again at any time.
