Over the past few weeks we have been working behind the scenes to upgrade the Gamefroot Game Creator, and now it’s finally ready for you guys to test out! This new release brings you a bunch of important new features that make it a whole lot easier to create awesome games.
Here’s the cool stuff we’ve added in for this release:
- Brand new User-Interface: Sleeker, faster, and more intuitive.
- Asset Manager: Now its easy to figure out what terrain, items, characters and other assets you have on your account. By clicking the View menu (next to the Preview button) you can open the Asset manager to see everything nicely categorized.
- Weapon Uploader: Create your own weapons to give to your characters.
- Extra Layers in the Navigator: A foreground layer! Items! Characters! A place for everything, and everything in its place.
- Right-click menu: It used to be a nuisance if you had an item, a character, and scenery tiles on top of each other – but now you can right-click on them and choose what you want to change whilst leaving everything else unmolested. Brilliant!
- Publish Checklist: Forgot to give your game a description? Don’t worry about it – now we will remind you to do all the important bits before you can publish your game.
- Customizable Promo Graphic: Those default game thumbnails were getting a bit repetitive. Fortunately you can customize them now.
- Custom URL: Your game link doesn’t always have to be the same as your game’s name. Put something creative in there if you want.
To test out all the cool things in the new editor with an existing level, you should probably “save as” and then open the copy of your old level in the new editor. The new editor is not backwards compatible with the old editor, so if you save levels on the new editor, you will only be able to open them in the new editor. Don’t forget that this is a beta release, so there might be some momentary hiccups – shouldn’t be anything too drastic, though.
There’s also a bunch of new stuff we want to add in as soon as possible, including support for other languages, more ways to share games in draft mode, helpful hints for new users, customizable game menus, and more! After this beta release, we intend to make incremental changes to Gamefroot more quickly and frequently. This should mean bugs get squashed faster, and juicy new features get rolled out at a more reasonable pace.
Hope you all have some fun making games with the new editor! We really want to get as much feedback from the community as possible, so post comments below, or hit us up on Twitter, Facebook, and the support page. Your ideas could make it into the next version of the Gamefroot Game Creator – now wouldn’t that be awesome?
Thanks guys!
– The Gamefroot Team
Awesome!
Thanks man 🙂
For those of you who are interested, the new level editor was built using a web based framework called Twitter Bootstrap – if you know what this means and you like it… then tell me… how cool is that!!!
